wo caravans used in the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s multilingual movie Ravan, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, in Ooty have been seized for having forged vehicle documents, police said on Tuesday. The two caravans had the same registration number. "An investigation led to findings of fraud in the use of forged vehicle IDs and tax evasion, which in turn led to seizure of four vehicles during the last week," said a police official. According to police, the vehicles seized in Ooty have been valued at Rs 12 million. Both Abhishek and Aishwarya are said to have used the vehicles during the shooting. The shooting of Ravan has been shifted to another hill station, Hogenekkal (some 300 km southwest from Chennai).
The police official said he feared the "racket may be much bigger since all top stars use high-priced caravans". Police teams have left for Mumbai and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu to look for other similar vehicles. Sources close to Ratnam said: "To our knowledge only two vehicles that were being operated for us have been seized. The suppliers who lent logistical support to our outdoor units should be blamed. Our shooting is in progress without any glitches." "Our office has taken up the issue with the suppliers," the source added. Ravan is being made in Hindi and Tamil. It also stars Tamil actors Vikram and Karthik. Since shooting began last year, minor problems have dogged the venture, including Ratnam being laid down with a mild heart problem, and cinematographer Manikandan handing over the work to another celebrated cameraman Santosh Sivan.

Aishwarya says “I loved Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther series when I was a kid and watched these films. It was hilarious, a laugh riot and a thorough family entertainer. People across different age groups love The Pink Panther because the films always bring a smile to one’s face.”
She added she said yes because she thought it would be a fun film to work on, “When I was offered this film, I was really excited as for me I was doing something which I have loves seeing as a child. It was a fun film which I would enjoy working in. The film did not require me to do intense acting and I did not have to look forward to scoring points as it had an ensemble cast of terrifically talented actors. I wanted to have a good time with all of them and I said a yes to the project. I’m not expecting critical acclaim or something from this film since the film is not about me, it’s about Steve Martin and The Pink Panther.” The film opens on February 6th.
Former miss world and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Bachchan’s father Krishnaraj Rai’s celebrated his 70th birthday on Thursday. Unfortunately, he was not keeping well for quite sometime and Ash who was shooting in the deep jungle of Kochi flew off to be by the side of her ail father on that special day.
Says a source, "Although Aishwarya has been her thoroughly professional self throughout the time when her father has been undergoing treatment for a serious sickness her heart has been in Mumbai with her father. When Mani heard it was her father’s birthday he let her go without a second thought."
The affair was not a grand one as Mr Rai is not keeping well and only close family members were present. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan dropped to wish Ash’s father. Abhishek was expected to fly in on Thursday but he couldn’t do so and sent best wishes to father-in-law. Abhi from deep jungle conveyed the message, "I’d love to be there because Aishwarya’s parents are not my in-laws. They’re a second set of parents that God has blessed me with. Unfortunately, much as I tried I can’t get away from here even for a few hours."
Aishwarya Rai insists that she identifies with hubby Abhishek Bachchan a lot and also shares a special bond with him.
She says, “I admire him (Abhishek) for his approach to work. He understands cinema so well that he is not afraid of taking risks. He stands by his family, friends all the time and because of this I identify a lot with him.”
She adds, “I know him for a very long time now. Together we have grown from actors to colleagues to friends and now we share a very special bond. It is definitely a nice feeling.”
